Growing
A growing home
We prepared a two-stage masterplan for a 1890s house with a slowly collapsing ‘60s addition on the back, outlining specific plans to stabilize the house in a first instance and how to accommodate for the growing needs of the family in the future.
The house needed structural work done across the sagging roof, rotting floor bearers and fixing sewer pipes – while also requiring renovation of bathroom, fixing of the kitchen and living areas.
We identified that the first stage should involve a simple stabilisation, as well as a rear addition that included:
- fixing the kitchen and living areas
- straightening and renovating the bathroom
- adding double-glazed windows and doors
- creating an outdoor covered space to face the backyard.
For the second stage we recommended to include an extra bedroom, study, dining, and ensuite, which were designed to fit in perfectly with stage one.
Highlights:A seamless design that brought the house together in a measured way without looking incomplete, and bringing more space and light into a house that gets better with time.
